External microphone options

The standard microphone of the SoundSign can be replaced with an external microphone/preamplifier/cablecombination which allows you to place the measurement microphone away from the display unit. We have a range of different microphones, preamplifier and cables which can be used with the SoundSign but to make ordering simpler, we have three standard options which can be added to a standard SoundSign Master Unit. MK:201/2 - External Microphone, Preamplifier and 2m Extension Cable MK:201/5 - External Microphone, Preamplifier and 5m Extension Cable MK:201/10 - External Microphone, Preamplifier and 10m Extension Cable.

Acoustic Calibrator

The SoundSign is supplied with the sound levels already calibrated for you. However, if you wish to check the calibration levels of your SoundSign, a CR:514 Class 2 Acoustic Calibrator is ideal. We recommend using an Acoustic Calibrator when an external microphone is used.

Outdoor Microphones

The SoundSign can be connected to a standard Cirrus Microphone Preamplifier, allowing it to be used with an outdoor microphone and extension cable. This would allow for the SoundSign to remain inside where it can be easily seen in the event that a factory door was required to stay open, thus impacting local residents.

Simple Sound Level Meter

The SoundSign uses a simple microphone that is attached to the top of the Master unit. This measures the noise level and this information is used to trigger the SoundSign when the noise goes over the set level. If the SoundSign is mounted onto a wall away from where the noise is generated, it may be necessary to adjust the trigger level to account for the distance between the SoundSign and the noise source. The best way to do this is to measure the noise at these two points using a Sound Level Meter, such as the Cirrus CR:306, and to make adjustments as needed.
